New Sounds A Cappella is a collaborative performance by the Cantilena Chamber and the Berkshire Community College choirs to introduce new and innovative a cappella music to the general public in an unconventional performance venue. The wonderful acoustics of the Intermodal center’s lobby lends itself perfectly to both “classical” and also contemporary music (yet more sophisticated than typical college a cappella) with an appeal to a general audience. The Cantilena Choir will present new music by classical composers Ola Gjeilo and more, and also arrangements of Hyena’s Anyone’s Guess, Chanticleer’s indie pop hit Cells Planets and James Taylor songs (with BCC). Special guest Krishan Oberoi, director of San Diego’s famous Sacra/Profana choir that specializes in this repertoire will conduct portions of the program.
