Designed for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years old, alongside their caregivers, our weekly Kids Kitchen nutrition education groups are provided at no cost to local families. With a goal to keep children and families as healthy as possible, in these groups children and their caregivers will learn about nutritious foods and healthy eating habits, and then will engage in a hands-on learning opportunity to prepare a healthful recipe together. These groups provide nutrition education AND healthy foods to families, addressing very real food insecurity issues for low-income and rural families, who often struggle to access healthy foods and may lack knowledge of how to use ingredients to prepare healthy meals every day.
By participating in these weekly groups, parents will learn ways to help their children build the skills they will need for a lifetime of health and wellness. Children will learn about nutrition, working in the kitchen, and preparing food, and will also develop fine motor skills and enhanced social and physical development. CHP’s Kids Kitchen on the Go will not only provide families with ingredients and nutrition education while at the weekly group, families will also be provided with healthy ingredients to take home with them. This will provide them with the necessary tools and resources to prepare healthy foods on their own at home, allowing them to follow up on what they’ve learned in a convenient, realistic way. Families will be empowered to develop healthy eating habits, which will put them on a path to a lifetime of health and wellness.
